We, the Anglo-Austrian Society, hosted our renowned Christmas Party again this year. On the 11th December 2023, numerous guests joined us to enjoy food and drinks together, accompanied by the classical Christmas tunes. The evening was further enriched by a reading from Johannes Wally, an Irish dance lesson by Victoria Eibinger and a Christmas Crime PubQuiz by Karoline Marko. It was a pleasure to have you all and we are already looking forward to next year’s Christmas Party.

We, the Pennyless Players, are looking for actors and people who enjoy working behind the scenes for our upcoming play: The classic tragic comedy Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, adapted into English by Glyn Maxwell. Whether you would like a chance to stand on stage or work on e.g. costume, stage design, props, make-up, organisation, etc. – all are welcome to our auditions, no matter your level of experience. The Austrian actor, author, screenwriter and host of the talkshow “Demokratie – Die Show” Michael Ostrowski honours us with a presentation of his new cabaret and concert “Der Onkel” in the Helmut List Halle in Graz. In the subsequent meet-and-greet, the alumni of the University of Graz offers members of the Anglo-Austrian Society an exclusive look behind the curtain.

After a long Covid-induced break, the Anglo-Austria was finally able to host its popular Christmas party again this year. Numerous guests joined us on 12th December 2020 at Meerscheinschlössl to enjoy pre-Christmas food and drinks. What’s more, AAS secretary Georg Pickl also hosted a little Christmas quiz, which allowed all guests to show off their Christmas-related trivia knowledge.
On Thursday, 31st May 2022, we had the great honour to welcome former British ambassador and author Leigh Turner for a talk at the University Library in Graz. Turner provided us with interesting insights into his life as a diplomat and father of two children and explained how his job has made him a better author. Illustrating his life lessons and key milestones with some gems from his photo library, Leigh Turner managed to captivate the audience, who were eager to ask questions and have copies of his books signed after the talk.
